Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background There are limited data on whether there is an association between hospitalisation with dental periapical abscess and new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) which independent main cardiovascular risk factors. Purpose To investigate AF. Methods A retrospective cohort study from a national database patients hospitalised in 2013 (3.4 million patients) at least five years follow up, unless deceased. International Classification Diseases (ICD) codes were used to compare the developing AF for adults without abscesses using univariate multivariable analysis hazard ratios (HR). Results In total, 4,693 classified as having abscess, 435 (9.27%) developed AF, compared 326,241 (10.69%) over mean follow-up 4.8 ± 1.7 years. Multivariable indicated that acted predictor new onset (p < 0.01). Conclusions An increased was identified individuals abscess. Careful up severe, acute infections needed incident well investigations possible mechanisms linking these conditions. New-Onset Atrial Fibrillation Is a Predictor of Subsequent Hyperthyroidism: A Nationwide Cohort Study

AIMS To examine the long-term risk of hyperthyroidism in patients admitted to hospital with new-onset AF. Hyperthyroidism is a well-known risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF), but it is unknown whether new-onset AF predicts later-occurring hyperthyroidism. METHODS AND RESULTS All patients admitted with new-onset AF in Denmark from 1997-2009, and their present and subsequent use of anti-th...

Risk of Atrial Fibrillation or Flutter Associated with Periodontitis: A Nationwide, Population-Based, Cohort Study

OBJECTIVE To investigate the risk of atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter in patients with periodontitis (PD) in comparison with individuals without PD. METHODS We used the 1999-2010 Taiwanese National Health Insurance Research Database to identify cases of PD in the year 2000 matching (1:1) with persons without PD during 1999-2000 according to sex and individual age as the control group. Us...

OBJECTIVES Our aim was to assess the association between use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) after myocardial infarction. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS We used Danish nationwide registers of hospitalizations and prescriptions to identify all women admitted with myocardial infarction in the period 1997 to 2009 and with no known diagnosis o...

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Atrial Fibrillation: A Nationwide Population-Based Study

OBJECTIVES Precise mechanisms of atrial fibrillation (AF) are uncertain, but their association with esophageal disorders has been recently proposed. The association between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the most common gastroesophageal disorder, and AF remains undetermined. We therefore aimed to investigate the association between GERD and later development of AF. METHODS AND RESULT...
